30 tips and tricks
learned while traveling
1. "To stay is to exist: but to travel is to live. »Gustave
Nadaud. This quote sums up so well what I learned while traveling: we
experience 1001 things that make us vibrate so we have to travel whenever we
can! 2 to 3 days are already enough for a great getaway.
2. You don't have to be rich to explore the world. There are
alternatives for all budgets. Ask your travel agent for advice, he will be able
to guide you to make your travel plans a reality.
3. Don't be paranoid. The locals are welcoming and ready to help if
you dare to ask. You would be surprised at the help and good advice they can
give you.
4. The results: we ramble! Expect to tell the same stories of your
journey 30 times upon your return. We always spontaneously bring out the same
stories, those that marked our stay. The good news is, we never tire of it.
5. Invest in noise-canceling headphones. We love babies, but on the
plane, the screams are hard to bear, especially when your neighbor starts to
snore.
6. We reunite with our compatriots of the same nationality.
Inevitably, when we travel, we attract each other with some unexplained
strength.
7. Always have chocolate, in case of a hard blow, it consoles!
8. Never use your cell phone abroad. Go for Skype, Viber or
WhatApp. If your family or friends aren't familiar with these mobile apps,
install them yourself before you go.
9. Your instincts: your best security. If a person or a tourist
operator does not inspire you, do not wait to have a bad surprise ... Better to
be safe than sorry.
10. You can do Facebook while traveling! You can find the internet
almost anywhere with the Wifi Finder application so don't panic.
11. Download digital versions of travel guides or take pictures
with your cellphone of the pages that interest you. If you are doing a 2-day
stopover in Rome, you don't need to take the complete 400-page guide to Italy!
12. Avoid the airport security line where there are children and
the elderly. Sorry but they take longer to pass ...
13. Check that there is no need for vaccine for the chosen
destination. Some vaccines must be done several weeks before departure. Go HERE
to find out more.
14. Do not bring your computer. It is heavy, it takes up space and
reminds you of work. Organize yourself so that your cell phone can take over
during your vacation.
15. Dress smart to take the plane. If economy class is full and
there are business class seats remaining, they prefer to offer them to people
whose dress style harmonizes well with that of other passengers.
16. Don't talk too much about your trip to work. You could well
make people jealous and see the tongues of vipers unravel ...
17. Always take a product with you to wash your clothes by hand.
This is practical, it would be a shame not to do without.
18. Always carry an electronic copy of your passport with you.
Email yourself a copy or save it to online storage (dropbox or google drive for
example). This will be useful in the event of loss or theft, as well as for
certain reservations in order to confirm your identity.
19. Pack less! A classic but we always make the same mistake. I
traveled 6 months with 25 pounds and survived! When packing your suitcase, pack
two piles: one with the “essential” things and another with the “optional”
items, this will already help you see a little more clearly. Do you have any
doubts? Ask your spouse, ladies, he will inevitably push you to take less!
20. Always take at least two credit cards. I lost mine in Asia and
I can tell you that is not funny at all. Minimize the risk by not putting your
two credit cards in the same place!
21. Understand that you can be understood. Beware, French is a
language more understood than you think ...
22. Take the time to discover a destination. A selfie at the
airport by reporting your location on Facebook is not the trip! Choose less
ambitious routes that allow you to discover correctly rather than stealthily
hovering over them. On vacation, now is not the time to put the pressure to run
around and constantly check your watch.
23. In Asia, consider the veggie option. Even if you are not a
vegetarian, when traveling it is sometimes better to avoid dishes with meat. We
are rarely sick with a dish of rice, think about it!
24. Do not change your money at the hotel or at the airport.
25. Always take warm clothes even if you are going out in the sun.
On the plane and in air-conditioned places, you will need it.
26. Leave a part of mystery. Planning your schedule too much can
sometimes mean closing off opportunities for discovery and meeting.
27. Never buy your mosquito repellents here before departure. On
the spot, it is cheaper and often more suitable.
28. Take a look behind you: Make sure you haven't forgotten
anything in the hotel room or in the taxi… Once you have flown for 7 hours,
what has been forgotten is generally fine. lost!
29. Use your body language. It is still the most universal means of
communication if you don't speak the local language.
30. P-R-O-F-I-T-E-Z: Get out of your comfort zone and make the most
of your vacation. Only do what makes you happy!
