Black Adam is a fictional DC Comics character created in 1945 by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck as an evil version of the superhero Shazam. Her personality has evolved over the years and today she oscillates between good and evil.
Story
In ancient Egypt, the sorcerer Shazam, eager to protect the Earth against the forces of evil, endows the human Teth-Adam with the powers of six Egyptian Gods: Shu, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aten and Mehen.
To acquire them, he must pronounce the word SHAZAM, formed by the first letters of each of the deities.
Teth-Adam becomes a hero in the service of Prince Khufu, until his murder. Deeply affected by this event, he decides to use his abilities for personal purposes and takes the name of Black Adam. In an effort to stop his protege, Shazam strips him of his powers and confines them to a beetle-shaped amulet that he buries in the tomb of Ramses II.
Discovered at the end of the 20th century by two archaeologists, C.C. and Marilyn Batson, it attracts the greed of their associate Theo Adam who assassinates them. Adam discovers the secret of the amulet and appropriates the powers as well as the memory of Black Adam. At the same time, the wizard Shazam chooses a new champion in the person of Billy Batson, the powerful Captain Marvel. Black Adam naturally becomes his sworn enemy.
Thereafter, he fights alternately on the side of good and evil.
Recently, Black Adam took over the leadership of Kahndaq, a country in North Africa, establishing a benevolent dictatorship there.
In Infinite Crisis: 52, he takes in a slave that Intergang offers him and falls in love with her. He later asks Captain Marvel (who then replaces the Sorcerer Shazam on the rock of Eternity), to offer the powers of Shazam to the young woman, who then becomes Isis, and whom he marries in the 16th week of the Chapter 52, with the Marvel Family in attendance.
Powers
Black Adam has the powers of six Egyptian gods which make him one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
Shou's Endurance and Resistance: Virtually invulnerable, he does not need to eat, drink, sleep, or breathe (allowing him to survive in the vacuum of space indefinitely). He becomes totally invincible.
Héru's speed: Black Adam has superhuman movement speed and reflexes. He can also fly.
Amon's strength: His physical strength is superhuman, equivalent to that of Superman.
The wisdom of Zehuti: Black Adam has vast knowledge allowing him to act with maximum efficiency in all circumstances. He can understand any language or script. He is also a great strategist, he knows what strategy to adopt depending on the situation.
The power of Aton: Totally invulnerable to magic, he can also manipulate it, Black Adam can invoke divine lightning. He can even teleport or summon objects.
Mehen's Courage: Black Adam ignores fear and also has absolute confidence in his abilities. He is extremely resistant to telepathic attacks.
When Billy Batson pronounces this same formula ("Shazam") which transforms him into Captain Marvel, the letters correspond to the initials of Solomon (for wisdom), Hercules (for strength), Atlas (for endurance), Zeus (for power), Achilles (for courage) and Mercury (for speed). He managed to defeat the entire justice league. Shazam is one of the only characters in the DC Universe who can defeat Black Adam.
