The documents kept by Donald Trump were so confidential that even Joe Biden's national security were not authorized to consult them
Documents recovered from former President Donald Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago were so secret that some senior national security officials in the current Joe Biden administration were denied access to them, reported the Washington Post.
On August 8, the FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago and confiscated 10,000 government documents, including 11 sets of classified documents, according to court documents. According to the issued warrant, the FBI is investigating whether several laws have been violated, including the Espionage Act, which prohibits the transfer of information that could harm the United States.
The new report, citing several unnamed sources familiar with the Mar-a-Lago investigation, adds to growing concern over the sensitivity of the documents Trump kept at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, without knowing more about the security of the place where they were detained.
According to a source close to the investigation, when investigators began reviewing the seized documents, they were "alarmed" by the confidentiality of some of the documents. According to the Post, most senior national security officials are unaware of some of these documents. The only people authorized to authorize these sensitive documents were the president, a few members of the president's cabinet or officials close to the cabinet, an anonymous source said.
According to sources, the documents contained information about the nuclear defense capabilities of foreign countries. In addition, 100 classified documents and 48 empty documents marked "CLASSIFIED" were recovered during the Aug. 8 Mar-a-Lago raid, according to the inventory of what was seized released Friday.
Representatives from the Justice Department, the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and Mr. Trump did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. The FBI declined to comment.
